Kathleen Hargrave
and Robert Spielholz
Robert Spielholz and Kathleen Hargrave are a husband and wife team who also collaborate their personal artistic voices to create unique works in hot glass. Andiamo Glass Design was founded by this team in 1986 for the sole purpose of exploring the nature of contemporary art glass.
Kathleen approached hot glass with a broad background in two-dimensional art with an emphasis on printmaking. She has been working in hot glass with a focus on painting and etching imagery for the past nine years. She studied techniques painting with Erwin Eisch in 1986 and sand casting with Jose Chardiet in 1990 at the Pilchuck School. She also studied at the University of Oregon, Eugene; the Arrowmont School of Crafts at the University of Tennessee; and the University of Washington, Seattle.
In the early 1970s, Robert studied and taught glassblowing at the Arts and Crafts Cooperative in Seattle. Since that time, he has been working in his own studio, exploring new variations of traditional techniques relating surface design and imagery to sculptural and traditional vessel forms, working largely with blown and cast glass. He studied at Yale University and at the University of Washington, Seattle.![]()
